ICE Ghost Shoes 26 is a community involved project to create white ghost shoes to mark and remember our neighbors who were killed, abducted, and traumatized by the ICE Metro Surge in 2026. Through small events and volunteers, we will install 100 white shoes throughout the state of Minnesota in locations where
ICE murdered, abducted, or hurt Minnesotans. The Twin Cities component is funded by FORECAST Public Art through the Artists As Witness grant.
The outstate component is funded through the Springboard for the Arts Artists Respond: Rooted and Rising Grant
It's impossible to describe the heinous acts of violence and trauma our
community endured during the winter of 26. We are interested
in remembering and honoring this period of time with a public art project
that focuses on the history. When thinking about who writes history the witness’s voice
must be heard and the atrocities muse be seen.
The two remembrance projects that inspired us are the The Stolpersteine Memorial bronze bricks installed all throughout Europe,
and the Holocaust Shoe Memorial in Budapest.
We hope the Ghost Shoe 26: A
Remembrance strikes a similar chord as the public art projects that influenced us. We want people to walk or drive by
and take a moment to stand in the shoes of someone who was abducted, violently attacked, or killed by ICE. Let's walk in their shoes.
